General Motors to help any employee impacted by Donald Trump’s travel ban

While Ford has come out to disagree with President Donald Trump’s executive order to stop immigration from 7 nations including Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, General Motors has remained quiet on the matter.

According to an internal memo from General Motors, the automaker has sworn to help any worker affected by the travel ban. A GM spokesperson told Business Insider the company is not knowledgeable about any employee impacted at this time by the travel ban.

“To date, we are not aware of any GM employee directly impacted by the policy,” the representative said.

“Travel and Immigration Policy Update

As you are aware, issues of immigration and travel have been at the forefront of discussion since a new Executive Order was issued last Friday. Some of our colleagues operate here with a GM-sponsored work visa and a few are from the countries affected by the Executive Order.

Please know that, per our normal business practices, if any GM employee traveling back to the U.S. with a visa encounters difficulties, GM will provide the employee and his/her family with support.

To repeat, General Motors has actually not taken a strong position on the executive order, and GM CEO Mary Barra has not commented on the issue. Though, Barra will meet President Trump on Friday to talk about production in the country as part of her role in the president’s Economic Policy Forum.
