Daimler stated it will recall one million newer-model Mercedes-Benz automobiles globally because of the risk of fire, after 51 fires were reported.
The German automaker said no injuries or deaths were reported associating with the cars that it will start recalling in the United States market in July when parts are available.
A repair has been carried out in the production of new automobiles and automobiles on dealerships lots will be fixed before they are offered, the company said. The issue connects to a potentially defective fuse.
“Any affected cars in inventory will not be sold until they can be outfitted with the extra fuse,” stated a Mercedes-Benz spokesman.
Of the million vehicles to be recalled, 307,629 remain in the United States, which is 40,000 units less compared to Mercedes-Benz reported to U.S. regulators.
The automaker did not immediately have a breakdown of where automobiles will be recalled beyond the United States.
The United States is among the 3 most significant markets for Mercedes-Benz, the others being China and Germany.
Of the 51 fires, 30 were reported in the United States market, a Mercedes-Benz U.S. representative said.
The recall impacts more recent models, consisting of those from the 2017 model year.
Mercedes-Benz and Daimler stated it would start notifying its U.S. consumers late in March. It didn’t stated when owners in other markets would be alerted.
