Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Malverne train hits car

A man has been taken to a hospital following the incident where his car was hit by a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train in Malverne, a village in the town of Hempstead located in Nassau County, New York.

The LIRR states initial reports suggest the crossing gate was down and the driver went there at 7:15 a.m. Monday.

No one on the New York City bound train was injured. Bus service was offered for passengers.

There was rail damage to fix. The station is part of the small West Hempstead branch and the crash was having nearly zero impact on the rest of the system.

Service was suspended in both directions after the incident on the West Hempstead branch.
