Two people died after their car struck an Amtrak train on Saturday night in Houston as the vehicle was trying to beat the train at a crossing.

The car, seemingly a Chrysler 300, went around another automobile stopped at the Van Hut Lane crossing and attempted to cut through the arms that were down.

The car crashed with the passenger train and was engulfed.

Two people were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The train was carrying 81 passengers and it remained upright and intact on track.

Investigation into the crash is ongoing.
