As per a recent report, Honda might develop an Acura NSX Type R to take on the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3.

Nick Robinson, vibrant development leader for the NSX, stated that the Type R might help increase Honda’s sporting image. The job hasn’t yet gotten the green light, “there is a big will within Honda to do it,” Robinson states.

Presently, the 2017 Acura NSX includes a longitudinally installed twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 with 3 electrical motors (two in the front, one in the rear). Total output hits 573 hp and 569 lb-ft of torque. A Type R variation might lose the two front electric motors and become a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. Getting rid of the motors would help shed valuable pounds over the basic NSX. Using other light-weight materials, while they might be pricey, might help drop weight further.

The Type R may have a lot of capacity on the track, and Robinson even compared it to the 991-generation 911 GT3. “The GT3 is an extremely track-focused vehicle. But for a Type R, naturally, it could be a direct rival,” he said. As it was formerly reported, Acura benchmarked the Ferrari 458 Italia and 911 GT3 throughout the standard NSX’s advancement. Nevertheless, Robinson says the GT3 was just benchmarked for steering feel.

Robinson stated Honda will likely release a convertible-roofed variation of the NSX after the coupe goes to market. Losing the roof panel should make little difference in the vehicle’s torsional rigidness.
