Audi R4 sports car still awaiting green light

by Ron Grant

You might already know that Audi is working on its R4 sports car which is a mid-engined, Boxster-sized, sports car. One bad news though is that Volkswagen has not yet given it a green light to hit the production line.

Volkswagen is still to decide whether they will use an alloy or steel body construction for this new model. The platform that will be used for the Audi R4 will also be implemented on the BlueSport which was previewed in the form of the Bluesport Concept during the Detroit motor show back in 2009.

The Audi R4 was previewed to the public as the e-Tron Concept during the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. The concept vehicle used an electric motor but Audi will have the production vehicle will have an option for a 1.4L turbocharged engine and a 4-cylinder 1.6L engine running on petrol. There will also be a 2.0L 4-cylinder diesel powerplant.
