Audi revokes plans to produce A2

by SpeedLux

There are reports from Audi official press release that the A2 stands to be cancelled for now.

Initially Audi planned to put the new model into serial production in 2015 to rival BMW i3 but the news is that the plans have been held back for reasons known to Audi.

Taking a cue from the old A2’s aluminum spaceframe, it was decided that the new model would be sold as a plug-in hybrid and an EV. Sources withing Audi say that the whatever they have developed for A2 would be implemented in the upcoming models.

Frankly speaking the concept previously shown had a weight of only 1,150 kg (2,530 lbs) and came with a lithium-ion battery pack touching the floor. It had an electric motor providing 116 HP (85 kW) and 199 lb-ft (270 Nm) of torque, enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 9.3 seconds and a top speed of 93 mph (150 km/h). Audi says the A2 Concept is able to provide a maximum range of 124 miles (200 km).

There isn’t much information yet about the features and performance of the car but details are likely to be put forth soon so stay tuned till then last but not least don’t forget to look at the pictures.
