Audi S3 Plus with 375 bhp planned to slot between S3 and RS3 – report

by SpeedLux

Audi is allegedly working on an S3 Plus model that is expected to fill the gap between the S3 and the upcoming range-topping RS3.

The Audi S3 is currently the top version in the A3 lineup with a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter TFSI engine producing 296 hp (220 kW) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm). However the upcoming RS3 which will have an evolution of the 5-cylinder 2.5-liter Euro 6-compliant engine will become the top version in the lineup.

With this unit Audi wants to create the most powerful 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine in the world so it will supposedly have more oomph than Mercedes-Benz’s unit which powers the AMG versions of the A-Class lineup. The AMG motor produces 355 hp (265 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) while Audi’s unit is said to generate around 375 hp (280 kW) and almost 500 Nm (369 lb-ft).

The same report also states that Audi has plans on introducing the S3 Plus in 2015 but the model could be revealed before the end of this year itself. Expect the same engine to power hotter versions (RS most likely) of the third-gen Audi TT (both coupe and convertible).
