It seems that the BMW X1 will now have a younger brother slotted under its lineup, at least according to the reports that have been coming from the German media for the past few hours. These reports mostly suggest that this new vehicle model from the luxury German automaker, BMW, will be known as the 1-Series Sport Cross.
As reported by the Auto Bild, the model will most likely end up being an entry-level crossover vehicle. In addition to that, customers who decide to spend their hard earned cash on this model in particular will be eligible for a front-wheel-drive (FWD) UKL chassis as well. The local media tend to believe that the German car manufacturer is actually planning to offer this new 1-Series crossover model as an alternative for those customers out there that are not quite willing to purchase the bigger and more expensive X1 model. The latest generation of the X1, by the way, will be coming out in June 2016, according to BMW. Yet, as for the 1-Series Sport crossover model, it seems that there is still some waiting to do. The car is not likely to arrive at any BMW dealerships out there until at least 2019.
As it turns out, the BMW 1-Series Sport Cross model is not the only vehicle model that the German automaker is cooking up at the present. Reports suggest that the company has also been busy trying to prepare a sedan version in its 1-Series lineups. Yet, be it a sedan or a crossover, customers will still have to deal with the FWD drivetrain and the company has yet to reveal if there is going to be any other drivetrain alternative available in the future. Some spy photos of the next BMW 1-Series sedan have even been captured and the photos reveal that there are going to be two variants of the sedan model, a 3-door one and a 5-door one.
