BMW i8 Concept – Photos and Info

BMW’s attempt to build a power efficient and high fuel economy sports vehicle are seen in the i8 concept. With a hybrid power source, the i8 could drive 20 miles in pure electric mode, and get a fuel consumption of over 90 mpg in hybrid mode. The combustion engine produces 220 horsepower and 300 Nm. The car accelerates from 0 to 62 in under five seconds.

The futuristic and innovative design gives the i8 a dynamic look, even when it’s standing still. Thanks to the transparent roof, the cabin will be full of natural light and the light produced by the top technology instruments available on the dashboard. Of course such a vehicle would feature a superb, highly intelligent infotainment system on a large display, which will probably be touch or voice controlled.

The BMW i8 will feature a 2+2 seat configuration, and will have two doors that open upwards.

The headlights are also a technology out of reach right now – laser lights. They are 10 times smaller than usual headlights, are esthetically pleasant and on top of everything – entirely safe for the eyes.

The BMW i8 can run either in pure electric mode, or in hybrid mode. Thanks to these two drive systems, this all four wheels can be driven at the same time, combining the advantages of rear-wheel drive systems, front wheel drive systems, and all-wheel drive systems. Thanks to the intelligent dynamic driving systems maximum energy recuperation is ensured, without compromising performance.
