BMW M8 supercar ready to burn rubber

by Alex

The concept model Vision Efficient Dynamics from BMW that was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show is about to turn into reality. BMW has plans all set to build a super sports car which would be based on this concept model and would be named the M8. It is just waiting the green signal and it would be ready by the spring of 2013. The four seater car would be powered by a hybrid engine developing 600 hp. By dimensions it would be five inches longer than the concept car, 1.24 meter high and 1.9 by width.

The hybrid power house of the engine consists of a V10 engine that delivers 507 HP at 7750 rpm and a torque of 520 Nm. It also has two electric motors one each at the front and rear axle and positioned between the V10 engine. The car also has a six speed M sport automatic transmission system. The front electric motor gives an output of 80 – 115 hp while the rear one would give 50 hp. The weight of the M8 would be less than 1500 kg which could be achieved by using an aluminum chassis carbon fiber for the body work and many of the other parts made up of magnesium and plastic. For the seats the interior has Kevlar bucket seats. The pickup rate of the car is from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

There is yet a debate on whether it be the next generation M6 or the M8 that be the first to be launched by BMW. Whatever it be, a hybrid sportscar it would be and worthy of a drive. The M8 is expected to be priced at 150,000 euro.
