BMW releases Z4 GT3 for private race teams, V8 packed with 480 HP

by Sebastian Bivin

BMW delivers the first batch of the Z4 GT3 racecars to private teams which will be using them in various international and national championships.

The Z4 GT3 race car was developed by the Motorsport division of the Bavarian carmaker. The speed monster is fitted with a V8 4.0L engine that boasts of 480 horsepower. The new powerplant is similar to what the M3 GT2 has and there is no argument the standard Z4 straight six should give way for a better performance. The engine is coupled with a gearbox that has six speeds and has a Quick Shift feature.

The car goes on the track with the roll cage to protect the driver. Aside from the new design, carbon fiber is also all over from the wings, bonnet, fender, roof, plus CFRP or carbon fiber reinforced plastics. These components made the Z4 GT3 lighter at 1,200 kilograms.

BMW tagged this car at around $403,000.
