Cosworth teases power upgrades for Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT86

by SpeedLux

Subaru BRZ, as well as its sibling Toyota GT86) are great 2+2 front engine rear-wheel drive sports cars. With 200 horsepower it is not very powerful and people have been waiting for an STI version of the BRZ for a long time, but as far as we know there are no production plans for a turbocharged BRZ at the moment.

Good news is that Cosworth is putting now more attention to road cars, after pulling out of Formula One.

The teaser video below does not reveal much, but with a title “Cosworth Power Packages – Summer 2014” and footage involving different mechanics rather than aerodynamic updates we are confident there are some changes done to the 2.0 liter boxer engine.

The British racing firm has made engines for Formula One, Indy, rally and even high-performance, road-going versions of cars like Ford Sierra, Chevy Vega and Mercedes 190E.

One of the packages is called FA-20 and will fit the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S in the States) and there seems to be upgrades for the exhaust, suspension and hopefully for the engine as well. a super- or turbocharged 2.0 liter flat four with 300+ horsepower sounds like a winner to us.

These folks clearly have the know how and we are very curious to see what the summer brings.
