Five killed after wrong way-crash in Pittsburg

Five people were killed on Highway 4 early Thursday morning in Pittsburg after a wrong-way crash.

It was about 12:10 a.m., when the officials learned about a wrong-way driver who was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 4 A Hyundai Elantra, kept eastbound in the westbound lanes and crashed head-on with a Ford Flex that was traveling westbound.

The crash took place west of Loveridge Road.

Both vehicles saw major damage before coming to rest in the westbound lanes.

The drivers of both vehicles suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Three children who were riding in the Hyundai have experienced fatal injuries and were also pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is under investigation by California Highway Patrol.
