General Motors said on Thursday it prepares to have its sites in the United States run on renewable energy by 2025, five years prior to its original plan.
The automaker also said it was collaborating with U.S power grid operator PJM Interconnection and energy firm TimberRock to track carbon emissions from electricity usage at its U.S. facilities.
Eventually, the automaker prepares to expand that effort to track emissions from the electric automobiles it sells, the automaker said.
The move is in line with GM’s plan outlined in June to increase global spending on electric and self-driving automobiles to $35 billion from $27 billion through 2025.
