General Motors to develop electric vehicle with 200 miles range

General Motors CEO has made public their plans that the company is developing an electric vehicle that could have a range of up to 200 miles.

Speaking at the energy conference, he said There will be advancement in battery technology and the company is testing two different systems to see which one will succeed. The executive refused to specify further, but said one will have a 100 mile (161 km) range while the other could result in a vehicle with a 200 mile (322 km) range.

He also validated plans to lower their vehicle’s weight by using advanced materials such as carbon fiber, aluminum and magnesium. As per the plans General Motors aims to reduce weight by up to 15 percent by 2016. As the CEO further explained, the general fact is that a 10-percent reduction in curb weight will reduce fuel consumption by about 6.5 percent.
