GM to Save Fuel with Dynamic Skip Fire System

by SpeedLux

It seems that those automakers out there just can’t stop innovating – which is a good thing, by the way. This time, General Motors (GM) has yet again introduced a new, innovative technology that will undoubtedly benefit owners of future vehicles from the said automaker. Dubbed the Dynamic Skip Fire System, this new technology is meant to save fuel consumption. The American automaker claims that this fuel saving technology is revolutionary and that the company is actually thinking about applying it on its future vehicle models that are powered by petrol.

As it turns out, this technology is actually the brainchild of a company called the Tula Technology. It works by integrating advanced controls of a vehicle’s powertrain with advanced digital signal processing. This, in turn, results in software approach to variable displacement engines.

Well, there is no shame in admitting that all of those stuffs mentioned just now sound very confusing. However, according to GM, the public can simply think of the new technology as an advanced system for deactivating the cylinders of a vehicle’s engine. After all, according to the American automaker, the Dynamic Skip Fire System makes use of individual cylinders to base its continuous dynamic firing decisions in order to deliver the engine torque required for all the loads and speeds of the vehicle while at the same time preventing vibration.

For the time being, this very exciting technology is still in the development phase. Nonetheless, so far, GM has managed to save the fuel consumption of its test vehicles by as far as up to 15 percent. With that being said, there is certainly nothing wrong with the American automaker testing and developing the technology even further. Or, better yet, perhaps GM should really apply the technology on its future vehicle models. That way, more and more people will be able to afford a car without having to worry too much about the fuel consumption that their vehicle will need.
