Holden to be axed, could be phased out as early as 2016 – report

by SpeedLux

Holden’s future is looking increasingly bleak as several Australian outlets have recently reported that the brand will be axed by the year 2016.

Citing senior government ministers, ABC is reporting that Holden has already decided to reveal this news in this week itself but decided to delay this bad news until early next year.

The Australian government has been looking into the possibility of providing financial assistance to the automotive industry but one of the sources told the outlet that Holden will leave Australia regardless of any assistance package which means even of the government plans to provide some package or bailout, Holden does not seem to be much interested in getting it.

Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane had dismissed the report but News Corp Australia says that there are rumors that have indicated that a shutdown could be announced on December 20th this year itself. However, there are some other sources as well that have said that Holden has still not decided whether or not to announce the shutdown before or after Christmas.

So in any scenario the brand is about to be closed but just a matter of timing that needs to be finalized.
