Hybrid Volkswagen Passat GTE Is Now German Police Car

by SpeedLux

Before the police in Dubai got their hands on a number of exotic supercars, most of the police forces in the world had to deal with standard cars. Unfortunately, sometimes, such standard police cars simply do not have what it takes to pursue escaping criminals, especially if the criminals use high performance cars. Thankfully, in this modern day, it seems that police will no longer have troubles taking those criminals into custody. After Dubai, the police force in Italy has also received a number of supercars. Yet, now it is time for the German police to have some pretty cool vehicles in their fleet. After all, Germany does build high performance and exotic supercars, right? Think of the Audi R8, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and the likes, they all come from Germany, don’t they?

This time, however, the German police will receive the hybrid Volkswagen Passat GTE. The car is meant to patrol the Heligoland archipelago. Just for information, no bicycles and cars are allowed to wander around in this area. Some exceptions do exist, though, for small fire trucks and ambulances.

It turns out that the hybrid VW Passat GTE is not the first electric vehicle received by the German police force. Before this, in July 2014, the force had also received the hybrid version of the VW Golf GTE. The Passat, however, is bigger, and it packs a tuned up petrol electric hybrid engine. The vehicle comes with a tuned up 1.4L TSI engine capable of 156 hp of power output and is supported by an electric motor capable of 115 hp of power output, besides 400 Nm of torque. Paired together, the hybrid petrol engine is capable of delivering 218 hp of power output.

The car will reportedly have a 6-speed automatic dual clutch transmission and will be quite efficient in fuel consumption. The fuel consumption is rated at 2.0 L/100 km and 13.0 kWh/100 km. Meanwhile, its CO2 emission will be below 45 g/km.
