Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell :Paris Motor Show

by SpeedLux

Hyundai- Hyundai Group is a South Korean conglomerate founded by Chung Ju-yung. The first company in the group was founded in 1947 as a construction company. With government assistance, Chung and his family members rapidly expanded into various industries, eventually becoming South Korea’s second biggest Chaebol(South Korean form of Business). Well today we are discusssing about the FCV(Fuel cell vehicle) from Hyundai which has been revealed at the Paris Motor Show.

Vice Chairman Woong Chul Yang, head of Hyundai research and design, described the ix35 Fuel Cell as “the pinnacle of Hyundai’s advanced engineering, and a powerful commitment to be industry leader in eco-friendly mobility”.

The car has already been revealed at the Paris Motor Show. Hyundai announced that the ix35 SUV will only be available for public and private lease by the end of 2012.

Hyundai has signed leasing contracts in Sweden and Denmark. It is believed that they will come up with 10,000 units by 2015.

About the car

The ix35 Fuel Cell is capable of travelling up to 365 miles (587 km) before refueling, a process that takes just a few minutes. It can perform the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 12.5 seconds and can hit a top speed of 100 mph (161 km/h).

A fuel cell stack (which reportedly has an output of 98bhp) converts hydrogen into electricity, which in turn charges the 24kW Lithium Polymer battery that powers the motor of the vehicle. The technology used in the ix35 uses ambient air, rather than compressed air, so that it can supply sufficient oxygen to the fuel cell stack, Hyundai says that this sytem improves fuel efficiency by up to 50% and also reduces cabin noise over those systems that require an air compressor.

The debatable issue here is that, there is no proper infrastructure to support hydrogen-fuel, which reportedly is still very limited, but there are plans within Europe, Korea and California to expand the network of such stations providing Hydrogen fuel. The Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cel uses a fuel stack to convert hydrogen into electricity. This is stored in a battery pack and is used to drive the wheels.

The car looks elegant and will be perfect for all the Hyundai Fanatics. It is assumed that this car wont make an appearance in UK, due of a lack of hydrogen infrastructure.

Pricing details-

Hyundai hasn’t revealed any information on the detail’s about the pricing yet, but remember we will be posting all the latest updates on this car as soon as we receive it. As of now click through the images and let us know your views.

Yes Hydrogen is the future fuel. And cellaenergy created the technology to carry the hydrogen in molecule based liquid way and can be used in existing petrol engine very easily with little changes.
