Lotus Evora GTE Limited Edition Unveiled at 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show: Live Photos and Details

by Ron Grant

The British car maker Lotus decided to expand the availability of its special edition Evora GTE road car after receiving positive feedback and ongoing interest from buyers.

The special edition is based on the Evora GTE racecar, which recently competed in the Le Man 24 hours.

It uses a tuned version of the mid-mounted 3.5-litre Toyota V6, producing 444-horses, up from the Evora S’ 350-ponies, all of which is fed through a sequential AMT racing gearbox and put to the pavement through ultra-lightweight forged alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tires. Expect this car to be significantly quicker than the Evora S – capable of hitting 172mph flat-out.

In addition, the styling has been dramatically changed, with a deep front splitter, stripes on the bonnet and roof and fixed spoiler stuck to the boot lid. As for the interior, no details exists yet, but expect a no-frills cabin, with bucket seats and four-point harnesses.

Thanks to carbon fibre throughout the exterior and interior Lotus engineers also reduced the car’s weight by 105kg or 232 pounds over the base Evora.

Commenting on the Evora GTE road car, Group Lotus CEO Dany Bahar said: “The response to this model in China has been so incredible, within days we had sold out with 114 orders. In response, we decided that the only logical step from a business perspective was to increase production and widen our reach.

“What is unique about this car is not just that it’s a serious race car – it’s a serious car. People get so excited when they see and especially hear it for the first time. It’s a very special car and will appeal to a very special type of driver – and they won’t be disappointed,” Bahard added.
