The very well known automakers from Germany, Mercedes is here again with another big ‘G-rand’ treat for all the Mercedes fans!

Because Mercedes is plannig to come up with, a small G-wagen-inspired SUV to tackle the upcoming Land Rover Defender replacement in 2015, as well as transformation of the G-class with a modern aspect.

The new model is set to be referred as ‘GLG’, this new baby SUV is definitely going to reclaim the lost ground in the popular crossover segment, with its traditional G-Class variants which had polarised look and lack of right-hand drive option, and this new one would sit on the MFA platform of the new Mercedes A-class.

If the sources are to believed then the new model is codenamed as X156 and internally nicknamed ‘mini-G’, the new variant, will be showing off a taller and up straight body panel, and of course much visual links to the original G-wagen, whereas the roof will be long and almost horizontal, all the way back to the rear tailights.

This new Model from Mercedes, would surely attract many buyers for the ample space, and the xcellent looks, it would offer. Other styling cues taken from the G-class would include, an spare wheel mounted on the Carrier, boxed off rear lights integerated with the rear bumper, wing-top indicators on the front, and round head lamps and full-length rubbing strips.

For the new model, Mercedes is considering a front-wheel-drive version, here it also should be noted that, even Land Rover is preparing a two-wheel drive version of its future vehicles.

For the new variant Mercedes hopes that they will bring in something high-up that the regular, 4Matic versions which distribute torque between the axles via a Haldex clutch, and also the on-board computers. Now if one wants to go off the road, there is this option of a GLK- inspired tech pack, which features hill descent control, special 4WD drive mode selector, stacked suspension and skid plates.

Under hood lies the heart of the new Baby SUV, which consist of 2 petrol engines: a 1.6-litre with 122bhp, or a 2.0-litre with either 156bhp or 211bhp. Whereas the diesel models will be 4, which are: a 1.8-litre 109bhp, and a 2.1-litre in differing states of 136bhp, 170bhp, or 204bhp. The top of the level model, includes a 350bhp GLG45 AMG equipped with stronger brakes, a seven-speed automatic gearbox, quicker steering and a re-engineered front axle.
