Sales of passenger cars in China last month increased compared to a year earlier as the domestic economy shows the recovery, an industry association said Tuesday.
1 percent boost has been observed in retail sales of passenger vehicles, including sedans, sport-utility vehicles, and multipurpose vehicles, year on year to more than 1.62 million units in May, data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) shows.
The sales gained 1 percent in May from April, according to the association.
Passenger-vehicle sales in the first five months reached more than 8.36 million units, showing a 38.1-percent increase year on year and a historic high for the same period since 2011.
The association attributed this development to the low base effect and the production of new-energy vehicle sales.
Luxury-car sales saw 13 percent increase year on year in May. Compared with the same month in 2019, they increased 45 percent.
