Seven people died after a head-on car crash at the north of Koromiko involving a van and a refrigerated goods truck that took place at about 7:30 am.
Officials confirmed 7 deaths and added that the figure includes the death of a 1-year-old child.
The crash took place when the van was heading north towards Picton, while the truck was moving south.
After that, the van – with nine occupants inside – crossed the center line when the crash happened.
Crews treated three people with injuries,
Two of them were flown to Wellington Hospital while one person was admitted to Wairau Hospital by road.
