Spied: Murray’s T25 on road trials

by Ron Grant

The city car T25 by Gordon Murray is on the road testing phase and it has been caught by the spy lenses of Autocar as it went around the streets in Guildford, Surrey.

The T25 is a very tiny, 3-seater car that gives us a preview of what can be the economy cars of the future and how iStream can cut costs, space needed for production, and energy requirements to make similar vehicles.

The car is even smaller than today’s tiniest production cars like the Toyota iQ and the Smart Fortwo, and it only tips the scales at 650 kilograms.

Gordon Murray hinted that the car may go on production as early as 2012 and that the first factory to utilize the iStream technology can be in the United Kingdom. Eventually the T25 will enter the other markets across the globe including major population centers. The car designer said that the T25 has a very strong appeal for the different brands because of the progressive values it embodies.

The spy photo shows the very compact design of the car and that the car has only a single door. The cabin can be accessed by the three occupants by swinging the door up and forward. The driver’s seat is centrally located while the passengers are slightly to the back and to the side.

Despite its very small size, the T25 can still accommodate some luggage. You can even fold the rear seats to make more room.

The car depends on the 1.oL 3cylinder engine that is linked to a clutchless gearbox with six speeds. How things work for the T25 is very similar to the T27 which is battery powered.

Gordon Murray was commissioned by UK’s Business secretary to create the most efficient electric vehicle in the world. We’ll be waiting to really see the brilliance of the T25 on the road.
