Tesla Plans to Release an All-New Roadster

by Allen

The Tesla Roadster is now retired but the company has plans to bring it back in less than three year’s time. The new Roadster though would be a lot different from the one released in 2008. This is a great chance for people who has missed out on buying a Roadster before. With the plans of Tesla to be more aggressive, for sure, people will have more chances to get their hands on an electric car made by pioneering car company.

The move is part of the Californian electric car manufacturer’s aggressive product roll-out. Tesla has previously announced next year’s release of the Tesla Model S. It also plans to debut a range of cars to rival the BMW 3-series.

A crossover variant of the Model S will be release and will be called Model X. Then in 2013, a cabriolet is likely to be release. In 2014, the new roadster will be launched as revealed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. This car will no longer be based on mechanicals by Lotus.

Tesla was a instrumental in establishing electric cars in the auto industry. Though it actually lost money on every roadster it has sold, Tesla has actually changed the industry. One good example is the way the Roadster has influenced General Motors to come up with the Chevrolet Volt.

Musk said that the new Tesla Roadster would be based on a new platform that will probably be a shortened version of the one developed for the Model S and other similar models. This platform will also be the basis for a range of Tesla for the next four to five years. The new platform will be more suitable for the mass market much like the platform of the 3-series and the new Roadster. The new line of Tesla cars is aimed to supplement the model S range.
