Tesla’s air filter removes pollution in less than 2 minutes

Tesla Motors released the results on Monday of its tests of the Design X’s air-filtering system, which showed its effectiveness.

Tesla put a Model X inside a bubble filled with severe levels of pollution at 1,000 µg/ m3 of PM2.5, which the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) describes as the kind of contamination that pose [s] the greatest health dangers. For comparison, PM2.5 levels in Beijing can hit 300 µg/ m3.

It didn’t even took two minutes, the HEPA purification system was able to decrease the level of contamination from “exceptionally dangerous” to “undetected”.

Tesla included that after the filtration system cleaned up the air inside of the vehicle, it started to filter the air outside of the vehicle.

In its declaration, Tesla stated that while the test was conducted with a Model X, the electric automaker anticipates comparable arise from the Model S currently in production.

On Monday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted that he credits Alphabet CEO Larry Page with notifying him about the health benefits of air filtering systems.
