Three killed after car crash on Highway 97, Florida

Three people were killed after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 in Escambia, Florida on Saturday afternoon.

The crash between a Toyota Corolla and an SUV happened just before 3 p.m. and the engine compartment of SUV was engulfed after the crash.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene.

The other two were flown to a Pensacola hospital, with one of them succumbing to injuries afterward.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

The Highway 97 remained closed into the evening for the investigation.
