Two dead after multi-vehicle crash on US 301 in Hillsborough County

Two people were killed after a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck in eastern Hillsborough County, Florida on Thursday.

The crash took place just before 3 a.m. on northbound US 301 just south of McIntosh Road in Thonotosassa, when a 32-year-old driver of an SUV crossed the center line and crashed with a southbound pick-up truck. Minutes after that crash, a northbound semi struck the SUV, as well as a passerby who had stopped to provide aid.

The woman driving the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man inside the pick-up truck was admitted to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The 53-year-old man who stopped to help was admitted to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

US 301 was resumed just before 9:30 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation by Florida Highway Patrol.
