Two people died following a crash between a car and a bicycle on Tuesday evening in Chatsworth, California.

Police responded to the crash at 9500 North Lurline Avenue at about 7:25 p.m.

Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The crash was initially reported as a hit and run, the department said.

The officials identified both victims as 37-year-old Ana Hernandez and 58-year-old Matthew Zink.

Zink and Hernandez were riding west on Plummer Street at around 7:10 p.m. when they were hit by a red 2006 Toyota Tacoma driven by Nelson Rodriguez, 58.

Rodriguez then fled from the scene and crashed into several vehicles. His vehicle came to a stop after crashing into a wall in the area of Knapp Street and De Soto Avenue.

Rodriguez was arrested and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
