A joyride for two youths resulted in a fatal crash when their car hit a tree in the middle of the road in Dhakoli, Punjab late last night.

Both men, working as waiters in a hotel, had taken the keys of the car, which was parked out of the hotel by a guest, without telling the manager about it.

The police said 26-year-old Kaithal native Vishal was the driver of the car at the time of the accident while 25-year-old Harish from Amritsar was the co-passenger. The accident occurred around 11:30 pm last night.

Empty beer bottles were found in the car by the police, adding that the vehicle was parked outside the hotel by Moga resident Ranjit Singh.

The dead bodies have been kept at the mortuary of Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi.

Relatives of the deceased have been informed.
