U.S. sales of BMW Group up by 9% in April

The sales of the BMW Group in the United Sates jumped by 9% compared to the same period last year. The percentage translates to 21, 111 units rolling out of their dealerships.

The latest figures indicate that BMW and MINI were able to sell 76,162 vehicles which is a 7.9% growth vis-à-vis the volume of sales tallied for January through April of 2009.

BMW Sales

April was a very good month as the brand continued to bring in positive results as they perform well in the key segments of the luxury market. BMW sales went up by 10 percent or 17,268 units. As of current, the sales of the BMW Group have increased by 8.8% or 63,591 vehicles.

BMW was able to keep the position as the leader in the segment of midsize sports sedan with the 3 Series doing very well. The brand was able to sell 4,464 units or a 63.7 percent improvement of the 3 Series. The 7 Series is also leading the pack in the large vehicle luxury segment. Its sales are up by as much as 96.3 percent or 1,555 vehicles for April. The Z4 and the 1 Series also lead in the smaller volume market.

Pre-Owned BMW Sales

The sales of the pre-owned BMWs also showed some gains. Their dealers across the country reported 23 percent increase or 15,472 units in sales of used vehicles. Year to date, the sales for the pre-owned BMWs are up by 6% or55,32 vehicles.

MINI Sales

MINI is still showing some strong performance as it also gets a bigger chunk of the market share. MINI was able to get rid of 3,843 units off their inventory which translates to a 5.1 increase compared to the 3,657 cars sold April of last year. MINI USA has a year to date sales increase of 3.3 percent as they have sold 12,571 vehicles.

MINI is preparing for its long term growth and plans to increase their line up from three models to six come 2011. The dealer network is also being improved to around 100 more by summer of 2010 with combined investments of dealers amounting to $200 million for this year and the previous.
