The CEO of Volkswagen expects autonomous vehicles to be ready for sale between 2025 and 2030, he informed a magazine.

Herbert Diess mentioned the improving performance of computer chips needed in autonomous vehicles while developments in artificial intelligence are also speeding the progress.

“It is foreseeable that the systems will soon be able to master even the complex situations of autonomous driving,” Diess informed the Wirtschaftswoche weekly magazine.

Volkswagen has been working on autonomous automobiles and speeding up its efforts to make them workable for the general public. The automaker started testing driverless vehicles in Hefei, China by August this year and the automaker’s truck unit Traton has partnered with TuSimple for making autonomous trucks.
