During a special event held in Wolfsburg, Germany, one of the most reputable automakers from the country, Volkswagen, has decided to uncover its latest creation for the World Rally Championship (WRC) series. This is the Polo R WRC for the 2015 model year and, as its name implies, is designed specifically for the said racing event. The company discloses that the car will take part in the upcoming WRC competition that is set to run at Monte Carlo later this month.
As a new vehicle model, the 2015 VW Polo R WRC comes with a revised rear wing for improved aerodynamics. That, however, is just for the start. The vehicle also sports a new gearbox that is activated hydraulically when the driver of the car pushes the paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel of the car. The car looks pretty cool, too, thanks to its new livery dominated by the dark blue color.
Unfortunately, VW is rather unwilling to share more about the technical spec sheets of the car. Yet, the German company claims that everything about the car is now stronger, lighter and simpler than the company’s previous WRC vehicle model. VW claims that it has improved just about all of the components of the vehicle that it used before.
According to the chief person at the technical development division of Volkswagen, Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neuber, the next generation Volkswagen Polo R WRC has indeed undergone major tweaks, not only on the outside but also on the inside of the vehicle, including its engine compartment. The man claims that VW has improved a package that is already excellent, the company’s previous Polo R WRC model, which has tasted numerous victories over the past couple of years.
There will be three 2015 Polo R WRC models delivered to the rally tracks within 2015 and the couples are, as reported by VW itself, Ola Floene/Andreas Mikkelsen, Miika Anttila/Jari-Matti Latvala and Julien Ingrassia/Sebastien Ogier.
