An 18-year-old was rescued from a submerged car after officials saw him speeding on Franklin Avenue, New Orleans.

Orleans Levee District Police say the crash took place around 7 p.m. on March 4.

Police say the vehicle went through the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Lakeshore Drive before striking a concrete barrier, then resulting in the car going airborne and fall into the lake.

The officer grabbed a floatation device and threw it at the driver, who was pulled ashore by the officer and another witness closeby.

The driver was treated at the scene and admitted to a local hospital.

The teen claims his brakes malfunctioned, which resulted in losing control. He was cited for careless operation.

Efforts to take the car out of the lake are continued.
