Two people died and another person was seriously injured following a two-car crash on Monday afternoon in Windsor, Ontario.

The incident took place just before 4:45 p.m. Monday when a Jeep Compass and a Chevrolet Malibu crashed at the intersection of Windsor and Park avenues.

Officers were helped by people at the crash site to evacuate the drivers and passengers from the vehicles, one of which caught fire after the crash.

Two of the injured were unresponsive.

Investigators got to know that the Chevrolet Malibu had been driving north in the southbound lanes of Windsor Avenue as it headed the Park Avenue intersection, where the Jeep Compass driven by Francis was turning south and was hit by the Chevrolet.

Victims identified as Remicia Francis, 51, of Windsor, and Corey Mackey, 42, of Hartford, were both admitted to a nearby hospital after the crash but they succumbed to their injuries.

The driver of the Malibu was injured and remained in stable condition as of Tuesday.
