2 killed in wrong-way crash on Loop 202 in Chandler, Arizona

Two people died following a wrong-way car crash that shut down an East Valley freeway in Chandler, Arizona on Monday evening.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash that took place at 6 p.m. on westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway near Alma School Road in Chandler.

A white Yukon driven by a person identified as Sarah Walterscheid got on the freeway heading in the wrong direction. The truck sped up the off-ramp into oncoming traffic, striking head-on into Jackie Keeper’s black Kia.

Keeper, 44, and Walterscheid, 30, both of Chandler, were succumbed to their injuries in a hospital.

The driver of other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The freeway was closed until around 10 p.m, but the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
