The safest compact car award goes to 2010 Alfa Romeo Giulietta

by Alex

The European New Car Assessment Programme awarded a five star rating to Alfa Romeo’s latest model the Giulietta. The overall score that the Giulietta obtained from the Euro NCAP was 87/100.

The rating points to the fact that the Giulietta is the “safest compact ever.” This assumes greater significance since EURO NCAP had implemented a new system for evaluating car safety in which the cars were evaluated on a different scale than what used to be done before. The Giulietta obtained an impressive 97% rating for Adult Occupant and 85% for Child Occupant. It received 63% for Pedestrian Protection and 86% for Safety Assist. These indicate a high safety featured evaluation system against which the Giulietta has come out with impressive totals. Alfa Romeo has gone on to add that they are sure that the car would preserve its rating in the year 2012. Additional safety features incorporated into the Giulietta are the Vehicle dynamic Control system. It also has the MSR feature which safeguards the car from accidental wheel locking when the throttle is released. The DST (Dynamic Steering Torque) system, the electronic Q2 and a Prefill System are the other features worthy of mention. Six airbags, two of which are multistage ones are installed in the car along with three-point seat belts having double pretensioners and load limiters. The car is incorporated with the latest device to save guard against whiplash that occurs in case of high speed impact. Called SAHR for Self Aligning Head Restraints, these are fitted at the back rest of the front seat and moves the head restraints closer to the occupant’s head upon detection of an impact.
