Audi S4 engine to power the Chinese version of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne

by Alex

Porsche Cayenne class of cars that are meant to be sold in the Chinese market would be installed with a supercharged 3.0 liter V6 engine which now does duty under the hood of the Audi S4. The new engine replaces the naturally aspirated 3.6 liter V6 engine.

This recent move also proves true what analysts had long being predicting, that cars to be sold in the Chinese market would be better designed than those sold in other markets of the world. The company on its side is tempted to fit the more advanced engines in vehicles to be sold in the Chinese market due to tax legislations prevalent there. With the 3.6 liter engine the SUV would be placed in the 3 to 4 liter engine category which draws a 40 percent tax amount. Fitted with the 3.0 liter engine, the car would fall within the 3 liter limit and will lead to taxes coming down to 25 percent only.

So what this entails is consumers in China will get a higher rated car with a more advanced engine without having to pay more. The car offers more hp and torque as well as drivability as the new supercharged 3.0 liter TFSI V6 engine can churn out 333 hp between 5,500 and 7,000 rpm and develops 324.5 lb ft torque between 2,900 and 5,300 rpm. Comparatively the 3.6 liter naturally aspirated engine in the Cayenne delivers 300 hp at 6,300 rpm and 295 lb-ft torque at 3,000 rpm.
