The all new 2012 Porsche 991 911

by Alex

Porsche is one of the leading names in the automobile industry and the 911 is the star of the German car maker’s model line up since its inception in 1963. It is one of the oldest models in the Porsche stable and the manufacturer has launched several models of the 911 since then. The five distinct generations launched since 1963 are the 911 classic, 964 series, 993 series, 996 series and the 997 series generation. It is claimed by many that 911 generation model is the most successful in the history of Porsche. This is also proved by the sales it generated and the revenues collected by Porsche model 911. Now, in addition to the five models already launched, Porsche is planning to launch it’s sixth model at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011. This is ready to create a huge tide in the motor world as it has lot of expectations and is undergoing intense testing in all the parameters.

Though many may claim that it is not orthodox for Porsche to bring out a new generation 911, especially after the fact that they just revealed a facelifted version; the requests keep on changing. Porsche must answer the call of duty for the changing requests. There are lots of changing targets now. Some of the main targets involve improving fuel consumption especially during the time of the increase in fuel prices. One of the other main targets would be to target the carbon dioxide emissions. A lot of stress is being laid on the environment protection these days and hence targeting the reduction of carbon dioxide emission will catch the attention of both the pollution control authorities. So, the main targets for the new generation 911 model are improving both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Though everyone recognize it as the original 911 model, the new generation 911 model is significantly different and is a completely new vehicle. It has both interiors and exteriors different from the original model. The changes in the exteriors and interiors did not affect the engine though and it will still be the usual flat six unit. But more modern technologies are embedded in the engine to make sure that it shows improvements in the aspects of fuel consumption and to reduce the pollution by lowering the carbon dioxide emission.

Though the new 2012 Porsche 911 model promises the retention of all the successful and well received iconic bits, it promises a significant redesign and also an improvement of the current Porsche 911 model. Some of the changes involve the change in the external styling though all of it can be described as subtle as best and includes such features as a more protruding jaw while the angles are softened around the turn signals and headlights. But an average non motor expert fan will still see it as a normal Porsche 911. Though the new model is still working on the mounting points to optimize the distribution of weight, the engine will stay at the back. They are trying to re-work the front end to make it similar to Boxter and also changing the interior to be more in line with the rest of the sports car segments.

After the launch of the 991 911 in 2012, Porsche is targeting the release of the Turbo GT2, and GT3 in 2012.
