A 3-year-old girl died after she was trapped in a burning car in Queens on Sunday night, the officials stated.

Zoey Pereira, who resided in Queens, was declared dead at Jamaica Hospital, the police stated. Emergency workers discovered her inside a 2008 Audi Quattro around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Rockaway Boulevard and Baisley Boulevard, close to north of Kennedy International Airport.

Her father fled the car and ran into a pond before he was taken into custody, the police stated. He was transported to Jamaica Hospital and treated for burns while still in police custody.

No charges have been filed against the father. He has not yet been identified by the officials.

A propane canister and chains were discovered near the car, but investigators have not figured out how or if they were used, the police stated.
