Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV stated on Friday it is recalling 108,000 Ram 1500 diesel-powered pickup trucks in the United States because of coolant leaks tied to reports of some fires and four small injuries.

The automaker stated the recall concerns trucks from the 2014 through 2019 model years after discovering microscopic cracks in some Exhaust Gas Recirculation coolers. The injuries took place when customers attempted to manually extinguish engine compartment fires.

Fiat Chrysler stated it is going to alert owners when they can get recall repairs. Until then customers can monitor coolant levels and contact dealers if they are really low.

The automaker stated dealer-service reports and other data streams resulted in an internal investigation that found cracks may permit coolant to “escape and – in rare circumstances – pose an engine fire risk.” Fiat Chrysler stated it was not aware of any accidents connected to the recall.

The recall does not impact the redesigned, current-generation Ram 1500, neither any gasoline-powered Ram 1500 from any model year.
