Bad weather led to an almost 60-car pileup on a highway in western Maryland — complicating post-Thanksgiving traffic and stranding drivers for hours.

Maryland State Police has confirmed that 58 cars were affected in 29 separate accidents on Interstate 68 Sunday, backing up traffic for 5 to 6 miles, WUSA 9 reported.

Dense fog that caused limited visibility was to blame for these incidents, officials stated.

Ten people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The pileups led officials to shut down roads from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Commuters raged about the delays on Twitter.

“Welcomed back to Maryland by driving past 4 separate accidents on the way home,” one person tweeted.

“I left at 1:30 to go back to campus,” posted another. “It’s almost 5:30 and I’m still in Maryland! I should have 1 hour left of my drive but I’m stuck in stop and go traffic with 3.5 hours to go.”
