The 1970s Mercedes-Benz show car fell prey to some thieves while it was being transported to a Channel crossing trailer on its way back to the Mercedes-Benz World, Brookland. In the attempt, one of the gullwing doors was damages along with the nearest front wing. The good news, though, is that the show car is now in safe hands. The attempted theft failed.
According to the authorities, the robbers probably had no idea what they were stealing. The car couldn’t run because it’s a mock-up model with no engine installed. The C111 concept was released by Mercedes-Benz in various iterations of power trains. Aside from the turbo-charged gasoline engines, the company also fitted diesel and rotary engines on it too.
Its successor, the C112, was fitted with a 6-liter V12 engine. However, no version ever made it to the production line. Presently, the Mercedes-Benz made it home and repairs are in progress.
