Future Driver Assistance Systems Previewed by Mercedes Automated Driving Technology

Responding to rival Volkswagen’s latest updates, Mercedes-Benz recently gave a preview of its automated driving systems. These systems are designed to improve driver assistance mechanisms for the German manufacturer’s production cars.

According to Daimler engineering executive, Prof. Bharat Balasubramanian, the systems should be able to address complicated traffic situations and lessen the possibility of accidents.

According to Balasubramanian, the automated driving systems were mainly designed for safety. These automatic systems allow engineers to have a better control of their experiments. With these mechanisms, the company can now test vehicles to an extreme level without injuring test engineers and drivers. The company has always been known for its prime on safety features, even with market ready cars.

Daimler is positive that with these latest developments in automated driving, the company will be more than ready for the next-gen assistance systems. Currently, the German car manufacturer makes use of pre-programmed bots to handle steering, braking, and accelerating, while an on-board computer is in charge of making sure that the robotic steering is accurate.

Mercedes-Benz told the press that each of their cars is designed for these automated testing processes. Consumers are now wondering if an autopilot option will soon be available for market-ready vehicles.
