2 killed after car crashes into pole in Berkeley Hills, 1,000 without power

Two people were killed in a two-vehicle car crash in Berkeley Hills, California on Tuesday afternoon and 1,000 residents were left without power because of a damaged pole.

The crash took place near Marin Avenue and Spruce Street at 1:39 p.m., Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Officer Byron White said on Tuesday evening.

It is yet to be known that what caused the crash.

The female passenger of one of the cars was declared dead at the scene. The male driver of the car was taken to the hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.

A woman in another car was taken to the hospital with small injuries.

Residents in the area will be without power for at least six to seven hours.

Investigators are on the scene and have urged people to avoid the area.

Eyewitnesses suggested that the car went ‘airborne’.
