Two men died after a police chase ended in a fatal car crash on the M60 near Stockport.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating the incident, which resulted in a horrific smash near junction 27 for Stockport East.
The dead included two men aged 18 and 77.
The police watchdog believes that at around 10:15 pm on Thursday night, police first saw a black BMW travelling on Altrincham Road towards the Sharston Link.
The car was said to be stolen, and after the 18-year-old driver failed to stop for officers, a police chase began.
BMW traveled onto the M56 and then the M60 before it would leave the motorway at junction 27 for Stockport East.
The car drove back onto the M60, running on the wrong side of the carriageway in the direction of oncoming traffic.
After being told about the incident by Greater Manchester Police, the IOPC started to collect evidence at the scene.
The watchdog says it has gathered evidence from GMP officers involved and dashcam footage from the police automobiles involved in the chase.
