1 killed and 3 injured after car crash in Johnson City, Tennessee

One person died and the other three were injured following a vehicle crash in Johnson City, Tennessee on Monday.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the crash took place at 2:52 p.m. at the intersection of Browns Mill Road and North State of Franklin Road. About four vehicles were involved in the vehicle crash.

THP noted that Jeep Wrangler was being pursued by the Unicoi County Sheriff’s Office when it depart from the interstate and drove onto North State of Franklin, heading north.

The Jeep went into the opposite lane at the intersection, where it struck a Nissan Rogue. The passenger in the Jeep was ejected when the automobiles made contact.

The Jeep then struck Toyota Highlander and a Honda Accord. The ejected passenger struck the Toyota during the crash.

The driver of the Jeep, named Danny Whitson, 24, of Erwin, fled on foot, He was arrested by Unicoi County authorities.

The ejected passenger from the Jeep named Carolyn McMurray, 54, of Jonesborough was declared dead after succumbing to injuries in the Johnson City Medical Center.

Whitson was injured and so was the driver of the Nissan. One passenger in the Toyota was admitted by EMS to the Johnson City Medical Center.

Charges have been filed against Whitson over the crash.
