Two pedestrians killed after car crash in Arlington, Washington

Two people died in a car crash after they were hit by a suspected DUI driver on State Route 9 in Arlington, Washington on Thursday.

Officials were notified of the crash that took place at the intersection of 204th Street Northeast and SR 9 at 2:38 a.m.

Two pedestrians were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 28-year-old Stanwood man, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). He was jailed at Snohomish County Jail for an investigation of two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of DUI.

A vehicular homicide conviction can come with a $50,000 fine and a sentence of up to life in prison.

Both directions of SR 9 were shut from East Highland Drive to Eaglefield Drive. Around 5 a.m., officials said the stretch of highway would remain closed for some hours.

Washington State Patrol investigated the crash.
