Reno County, Kansas

A pileup that involved seven vehicles in Reno County, Kansas has left one person dead and another in critical condition.

The incident took place when a vehicle was slowing down to turn left onto 50th from K-14. Directly behind that car were three other vehicles including an SUV pulling a car trailer, with a car loaded, a Mitsubishi Galant, and a Ford Mustang.

The Mustang then hit the back of the Galant, forcing it into the car trailer in front of it. After that, the Galant went left of center, after which it crossed the centerline and was hit head-on by a semi.

The front seat passenger of the Galant succumbed to injuries, and the driver is in critical condition.

After the semi hit the Galant, it jackknifed, forcing the semi into oncoming traffic. It then hit another truck that was heading southbound on K-14.

Both the semi and the truck ended up in the ditch.

The driver of the semi was admitted to a regional hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The intersection was shut after the crash.

The Kansas Department of Transportation was rerouting all traffic.
